UK · CHAPTER 3
UK admissionrequirements.
UK universities ask for transcripts, a personal statement, references and an English test. Bachelor's applications go through UCAS; master's applications go directly to each university, usually on a rolling basis. Apply 8–12 months before your course to keep scholarship and housing options open.

Undergraduate: UCAS
Bachelor's applications go through UCAS with one personal statement for up to five choices. Oxford, Cambridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary science close in mid-October the year before entry; most other courses have a late-January equal-consideration deadline.
Postgraduate: direct applications
Master's applications go to each university's online portal. Many accept applications until programmes fill, but popular courses close earlier and scholarships have fixed deadlines. Universities typically state minimum Indian percentages or CGPAs on their country pages.
Typical timeline for September 2027
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Sep–Oct 2026 | Shortlist; book IELTS/PTE; Oxbridge and medicine UCAS deadline mid-October |
| Oct 2026 – Jan 2027 | Apply to master's; UCAS equal-consideration deadline late January |
| Nov 2026 – Apr 2027 | Offers arrive; scholarship applications |
| Apr – Jul 2027 | Meet conditions, pay deposit, receive CAS |
| Jun – Aug 2027 | Hold funds 28 days, apply for visa (up to 6 months before course) |
Conditional vs unconditional offers
A conditional offer lists what you must still provide — final marks or an English score. Once met, it becomes unconditional, you pay any tuition deposit, and the university issues your CAS for the visa.
IN DEPTH · TAP A TOPIC TO OPEN
UCAS deadlines for bachelor's applicants
| Deadline | Applies to |
|---|---|
| Mid-October | Oxford, Cambridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses |
| Late January | Most other courses — the 'equal consideration' date |
| Until June / Clearing | International applicants can often still apply where places remain |
How to choose five UCAS options or a master's shortlist
- Two ambitious choices above your predicted or actual grades
- Two realistic choices that match your grades
- One safer choice with lower entry requirements
- Check the exact modules in each course, not only the course title
- Check the English requirement for your subject (law and medicine ask for more)
- Note each university's CAS deposit and refund policy
Rolling admissions for master's
Most UK master's programmes review applications as they arrive and close when full — popular courses at top universities can close by January or March for September. Applying in October–December gives the best chance and leaves time for scholarships. Some business schools run rounds with fixed deadlines.
QUICK ANSWERS
Your questions, answered.
It depends on the university and course. Many ask for 55–60% or above from Indian universities; competitive universities ask for more. Check the university's India entry-requirements page.
Many do if the final degree meets the entry requirement, but some top universities limit the number of backlogs. Ask each university and mention cleared backlogs honestly.
Yes, most taught master's programmes accept fresh graduates. MBA and some management programmes require two to three years of experience.
