How the 28-day rule works
The balance must never drop below the required total for 28 consecutive days, and the last day of that period must be within 31 days of your application date. The account can be in your name or a parent's (with their consent letter and your birth certificate).
Rates have been reported to rise for applications from 30 November 2026; check GOV.UK on the day you apply and keep a margin above the minimum.
Education loans
A sanction letter from a regulated lender stating the amount, your name and that funds are available for your studies is accepted as evidence. Secured loans have lower interest; unsecured loans depend on your admission and co-applicant income.
Remittances funded by an education loan carry nil TCS; self-funded remittances above ₹10 lakh a year carry 2% TCS from April 2026, adjustable against income tax.

- Bank statements or a bank letter in your or your parent's name

Common money mistakes
- Balance dropping below the required amount on any day in the 28 days
- Statements older than 31 days on the application date
- Funds in a sibling's or relative's name (only parents or legal guardians count)
- Not counting the deposit already paid — it reduces the tuition you must show
- Converting currency at a lower rate than the official one used by UKVI
